Purplemath on CD

The Purplemath algebra lessons are available in offline form for home use. This allows you to, for instance, review the lessons on your laptop while you ride the bus, or let your grandkids "surf" the site without having to provide them with a "live" Internet connection.

The Purplemath CD contains the entire Purplemath web site, modified for offline viewing. These modifications include such things as deletion of the ads (visible in the online version in the sidebar to the left). Since the files for a web site are just HTML and web-viewable graphics, any computer (Linux, Windows, Mac, etc) on which you can view this site "live" can also view the offline version contained on the CD.

The Purplemath CD has been made available in response to queries about supporting Purplemath. To obtain a CD, please use the button below to make a donation in the amount of ten dollars (US$10) or more. (Add US$2 if you are requesting the CD be shipped outside the United States.) This minimum amount covers our shipping and production costs, with a little left over to help defray the costs of site maintenance.

CDs are usually shipped within two or three business days. Shipments within in the United States are made via first-class mail from Illinois.

For those with shipping addresses outside the US, your CD will be shipped via First Class Mail International (FCMI) from the midwestern United States. The customs-declaration form will list the item as being an "algebra lessons CD", being a "gift", and having a valuation of "US$10". The United States Postal Service does not provide information to us regarding expected shipment times for FCMI packages.

Delivery times, both domestic and foreign, will vary depending upon your location and other conditions. If you need faster delivery, please investigate the shipping option(s) you prefer, using "60074" as the post-code of origin, and include the additional shipping amount in your donation.

BEFORE SENDING QUESTIONS TO PURPLEMATH REGARDING THIS ALGEBRA-LESSONS CD, PLEASE READ THIS NOTICE... ========================================= ************************* **What computer set-up do I need to make sure this CD works? If your browser can view the online web site, then you have the correct computer set-up. The offline version of the web site does not require any additional installation or set-up. All you need is a web browser, such as Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, Netscape, or Internet Explorer. However, text-only browsers such as Lynx are not encouraged, as much of the site content depends on images. ************************* **How do I start the CD? Insert the CD into your CD drive. You need to browse the CD (using Picker or My Computer or something similar) and find the file called "index.htm". When you open this file, your browser should automatically open with the web site loaded. If not, then try opening your web browser first, and use the menu options along the top menu-bar (such as "File", "Open", and then "Browse" to the CD) to find and open the "index.htm" file directly from the browser. ************************* **What's this stuff in the other folders? A web site has a directory structure, just as the hard drive on your computer does. The folders on the CD allow the web site's links to maintain their structure. The "images" folder contains non-mathematical files, generally linked to from the "family.htm" page; and the "modules" folder contains the Purplemath lessons. ************************* **Can I make copies of the files on this CD for my friends/students? The license contains the specifics on the terms to which you agreed (available in the "license.txt" file), but the short answer is "No". If friends want the CD, please refer them to the donations page on the web site. If you're a teacher and want to use these lessons in your on-ground classroom or on your firewall-protected online classroom, please review the site-license information on the "license.htm" page. ************************* **Can I pass this CD along to somebody else when I'm done? As long as you uninstall any copies you have made (on your hard drive, or to other backup media) and the recipient abides by the licensing agreement that comes with the CD, please feel free to give this CD to somebody who can use it when you no longer need it.
